Please introduce Siksin and its services.
Siksin was founded in 2010. We are currently developing and operating a user review-based restaurant recommendation service called 'Siksin' and a smart mobile electronic meal ticket called 'Siksin e-meal ticket.'
Siksin is one of the main restaurant services in Korea, with over 3.5 million download and 25 million PVs per month. Based on user reviews, Siksin provides results on over 700,000 Korean and overseas restaurants. It selects and provides recommendations for 50,000 restaurants nationwide, based on big data and among those, provides recommendations direct from Siksin for 5,000 of them. Siksin e-meal ticket is used by about 150 companies. You can order and pay for meals comfortably using a smart phone at participating restaurants, instead of using ticket books or paper meal tickets.
When did you first discover the NAVER CLOUD PLATFORM and how did you decide to use it?
While I was reviewing various types of translation platforms, I ended up choosing the Papago service which was the best at translating Korean food menus and the taste expressions unique to Korea.
Siksin was started as a project in preparation for the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics at the beginning of 2018 to provide Korean restaurant information to tourists. We compared various translation platforms and decided to use Papago which expresses translations in the most desired fashion. Although Siksin holds various types of food databases, it features a particularly-high amount of Korean food types. Other translation platforms could not properly express Korean food menus or taste expressions. However, Papago of the NAVER CLOUD PLATFORM understood Korean food menu such as "Tookbaegi Bulgogi," which means hot pot bulgogi. It also showed the most appropriate result values also for expressing various tastes in Korea such as "satish" and "salty" which mean a little salty, and "somewhat spicy" and "spicy and hot, " which mean spicy. Since it is an artificial intelligence service, the translation quality is improving and so is our satisfaction with the service.
What were the good things about using NAVER CLOUD PLATFORM?
Although the translation quality of Papago was good, I also liked the fact that it handles the overall service flexibly, based on the client’s situation.
We could design and carry out the necessary tasks flexibly, because the NAVER CLOUD PLATFORM staff adequately reviewed and understood our company's unique situation, such as our schedule. This is an advantage of using a domestic provider, but I felt that it might be the factor that the NAVER CLOUD PLATFORM considers as most important for collaborating with its customers. In the beginning, the database that had to be translated was large in volume. And, we had to find another way because of the NAVER CLOUD PLATFORM's restrictions on the amount of translation volume per day. The NAVER CLOUD PLATFORM staff reviewed our situation and increased the translation limit during the first operation so that we could be on schedule and carry out the project a little easier.
How has the Siksin service improved with the NAVER CLOUD PLATFORM?
We can provide the Siksin contents easily and effectively, even to foreigners. Because of this, our foreign traffic has also increased.
Since we have extended the service that was originally provided only in Korea to English, Chinese, and Japanese versions, we can now recommend popular restaurants to a variety of foreign tourists. The value of Siksin has also became high due to the increase of traffic. It was also worthwhile to provide Korea's food information effectively to people of various nationalities.
What is your business plan in the future?
We are planning to continue making efforts to grow Siksin one step further as a global service to inform people of Korea's restaurant information.
Starting with providing Siksin contents by translating into many languages, we intend to provide beneficial and useful information for all by curating the contents for foreign tourists and grow even more as a global service. We are also considering the use of a global region if Siksin grows and we have to extend our infrastructure to foreign countries. That's because Siksin's service must be provided at high quality anywhere in the world for our users! Also, we plan to do our best so that the Siksin e-meal ticket can also contribute to improving the meal welfare culture of companies by extending it to even more fields of business. We are looking forward to growing together with NAVER CLOUD PLATFORM in the future.
