Documentation of information in the company was implemented, and effective management of the attendance was made available.
SOUNDCAT is a company that supports music-related environments for everyone, from ordinary people to professional musicians. Annual leave and attendance management that had been previously managed with Excel sheets became convenient after adopting the NAVER Cloud Platform's WORKPLACE. In the future, we're planning to manage customers, build database, and utilize the database through various services the NAVER Cloud Platform offers.

Interview
Se-Won Park
General director
Please tell us about SOUNDCAT.
Our vision is to entertain music-related people, from general consumers to audiophiles and even professional musicians.
SOUNDCAT was established in 2005 and we have taken on challenges in areas not attempted by other acoustics companies. Such challenges include introduction of a high-end premium earphone brand called Westone (United States) in the Korean market for the first time. Understanding the possibility of custom in-ear market since 2010, we started our business doing the legwork and meeting with musicians in person. And now, 99% of the all the singers in Korea are SOUNDCAT customers Since 2011, we have positioned our target customers with the catchphrase, “All music lead to SOUNDCAT” and expanded our brand and product lineups for earphones, speakers, keyboard instruments, pad instruments, and audio interfaces. Since the establishment to date, SOUNDCAT is showing annual average growth of 30%. Our vision is to entertain all music-related people, from general consumers who enjoy music to audiophiles, and even professional musicians who write and compose music. In the meantime, we launched an in-house startup called "CATSGOODS." At CATSGOODS, we design and manufacture various types of character and brand goods, such as the "Andre Kim" licensed goods. Also, CATSGOODS has been publishing a monthly cultural art interview magazine called "Legend" and distributing it to bookstores throughout the country.
What was your reason for choosing WORKPLACE?
We thought Naver's environment was more familiar to us than any other environments provided by other companies, which was why we decided that it was most appropriate for SOUNDCAT's work environment.
We had been using the WORKS MOBILE service as soon as it became available through Naver, and that was the biggest reason. We had previously used Google services as well, but we switched to Naver's WORKS MOBILE service free of charge, around the time when Google's services became paid services. Another reason was because we were more familiar with Naver than Google, since we had used Naver's mail and calendar services for more than 10 years. When Naver's WORKS MOBILE became a paid service, we reviewed this matter for several weeks to decide whether to use another service, such as the Daou Office, or to stay and expand the service with the paid WORKS MOBILE, such as Naver's WORKPLACE. Then, we I finally ended up choosing Naver's WORKPLACE, because we decided that it was the most appropriate solution for SOUNDCAT's work environment.
What is the most useful feature of WORKPLACE?
I use electronic approval and attendance management the most. They’re also the most useful features.
I guess the most frequently used features are the electronic approval and attendance management. These are also also the most useful features. But I hope Naver will provide periodic training programs in the future so that we can take full advantage of all of the features. That is because it is difficult for us sometimes to fully understand the features with only a manual. Also, it would be nice to include a feature for creating customizable bulletin boards, in addition to the basic bulletin board. I’m using the Daou Office in addition to the WORKPLACE because the WORKPLACE does not provide this feature. And I belie it would be far more efficient for us if we could have this feature is integrated in the WORKPLACE. In addition to the electronic approval and attendance management, I frequently use the mail system. Other than that, I use the home bulletin, HR system, calendar, and the messenger a lot.
(WORKPLACE user training will be provided every quarter starting from 2020, and we are planning to customize the bulletin board to reflect user feedback.)
What are the noticeable improvements while carrying out your tasks?
Documentation of information in the company was implemented, and managing the attendance has become more efficient.
As the annual leave and attendance management, which was previously managed with Excel sheets, is taken care of with WORKPLACE, the information within the company can be properly documented and efficiency has increased for employee attendance management. The neat and to-the-point composition of the WORKPLACE helps the company’s burden on the HR management. Thanks to the WORKPLACE, we could adopt the electronic approval system that we did not have in the company before, and, as a result, the efficiency of approval processes increased compared to the old times when approvals were made verbally or via email. In the meantime, the inconvenience in customizing the menu system seems to leave much to be desired, because we could not conveniently leave out or add menu items according to our needs. Hopefully, such problems will be improved upon soon.
(We surely will improve the menu system to allow for easier customization reflecting this feedback.)
What are the special advantages of using WORKPLACE?
The Naver-based services provide a uniform user environment, which has advantages in stability and cost effectiveness.
As I mentioned earlier, the advantages could be the Naver-based service environment, safety, and cost-effectiveness. Although there were other business information systems that looked good from a functional perspective, they felt uncomfortable because their service environments were too unfamiliar, and some of them were running too slow. Also, their cost-performance features were also disappointing. Although there is more to be desired, I was very satisfied with the WORKPLACE about the three things above. I can also say they’re the special features and the greatest advantages of WORKPLACE.
What is your future business plan?
We'd like to built an collaborative work system with the various services the NAVER Cloud Platform provides so that we can collaborate in managing customers and building up and utilizing data.
There is a book called "Growth IQ, the Ten Paths for Success," which was published recently. According to the author, the factor that determines the possibility of success is not the growth strategy selected by the company but the context of arranging the strategy and the order of combining the plans. Perhaps we can say that our decision to go with the NAVER Cloud Platform is a means for arranging such a strategy. However, in my opinion, the business customers the NAVER Cloud Platform is targeting seem to be somewhat biased toward IT companies or companies with an IT department. To be sure, we can say it is the natural direction if these companies are their main target customers. But speaking for companies like us, it is difficult to know which services are better for us, because we are not an IT business nor do we have a department in charge. For us, the services provided by the NAVER Cloud Platform seemed to be quite hard to utilize properly. As for myself, I have experience in developing and providing a subway route search service for the Seoul Metropolitan Subway Corporation for the first time in Korea and implementing a CRM for LGCMS. However, I don't practice in that field anymore, and due to the rapid changes in technology, I have a hard time understanding the variety of services listed on the NAVER Cloud Platform website. SOUNDCAT is seeking to increase customers and expand its market while filling in the gaps between its brands and products for the current customers. For example, it was only a few years ago when microphones or microphones for video recording were hardly known to ordinary people. But these days, due to the worldwide YouTube fever, it became a daily routine for anyone to easily purchase various types of microphones for broadcasting. Such changes are the driving force for our growth in sales. There is an Australian microphone brand called RODE. They used have the biggest global market share in the field of Camera on DSLR. Then, with this YouTube fever, most of their customers are switching from photographers to YouTubers these days. To reflect such market changes and expansion of product lineup and customer base to out business strategy, we'd like to built an collaborative work system with the various services the NAVER Cloud Platform provides so that we can collaborate in managing customers in a more detailed way and building up and utilizing data.
(We’re providing blogs, Facebook pages, Youtube channels, and technology blogs to help users experience the full potentials of the NAVER Cloud Platform’s services. We will continue to do our bests to reflect various user feedback in our services.)
